The Week in International Baseball (4-10 March)

The week started with Japan winning the second of its two-game friendly series with Australia 6-0 in the second national team series of 2018 (link with video).

A combined Canadian university team will tour Europe in May (tweet).

The ABL will submit a proposal to join the CPBL, Taiwan’s baseball organisation (tweet).

We published our weekly update on European baseball players at American universities and high schools:

Our weekly honours went to the Netherlands’ Tim Schaareman, Greek hopeful Thomas Triantos, the incomparable Martin Mužík of Czech Republic (third in-a-row), and Lithuania’s Marius Balandis. This prompted a discussion of Schaareman’s draft chances (thread).

Brazil’s Bo Bichette was listed on the Jays’ big league roster for the first time in a spring training contest (tweet).

Austria released its preliminary roster for the European Championship playoff with Lithuania (link).

We kept up with various European nationals as their universities played this weekend, including Hayden Platt (tweet 1, tweet 2) and John Doxakis (tweet).

The Week Ahead
This weekend sees the first Catalunya Baseball Week commence, with Under-12, Under-15, and Under-18 tournaments between top European national academies.
Though no announcement has been made, it is likely that the Czech Republic will face Italy as the two clubs host spring training in Sicily.
