Padua Winless Despite Teahen’s Efforts

Mark Teahen reached base three times and scored a key run, but Tommasin Padova’s bullpen blew a 2-0 lead in the eighth and T&A San Marino won 5-2. The hosts earned the series win after a 13-3 drubbing a day earlier.

Teahen singled and drew a pair of walks in his four plate appearances, once more slotting into the three-hole in Padua’s lineup. The effort boosted his season line to .333/.500/.500 in the second game of his debut Italian campaign. The former Royals’ star was the only player to solve Frailyn Florian, an Italian National Team member and San Marino pitcher. Florian struck out six in 5 1/3, allowing only two hits.

Diego Fabiani tossed five shutout frames for the losers, allowing only one hit and one walk, but Padua’s bullpen surrendered all five San Marino runs in the bottom of the eighth. Gabriele Ermini had the big blow, driving in two on a double.

Padua (0-2) will have the week off before hosting the Italian Baseball League’s newest member, Novara, next weekend. The two-game series takes place on Friday and Saturday night at 19:30 GMT.
