Teahen Doubles in Italian Debut

Mark Teahen doubled and drove in a run in his Italian Baseball League debut, but Tommasin Padua lost 13-3 to IBL powers T&A San Marino. The host’s starter, Carlos Quevedo, struck out 10 in five scoreless innings, as Padua fell behind 10-0 after four innings.

Teahen was 1-for-4 with a strikeout in the third spot in the lineup. The former Royals’ utility player has not seen game action since Spring Training 2014. We broke the news of his Italian signing in late January and then spoke with him shortly thereafter in a fascinating discussion on wine, retirement, travel, and of course, baseball.

Meanwhile, Quevedo, a former Astros’ prospect, is no doubt looking to reestablish himself in Italy after making it as high as Double-A. The righthander, only 27 this year, gave up only a pair of hits and a walk. The box score is available here.

Game two of the weekend series is today, Sunday, at 19:30 GMT. Statistics will be available here, with the two clubs listed as T&A and Tommasin.
