As I began writing previews for teams in the 2012 World Baseball Classic Qualifying rounds, I became very aware of the lack of organised information regarding international baseball tournaments. I am primarily concerned (at least for now) only with competitions in which national teams play. For some events, only the medals were available, others have game results, and for a few, there are box scores.
I thought it might be helpful to create a list of international competitions, whether sanctioned by IBAF or the Olympics, so that updating results in the future would be simpler. I have combed IBAF, the continental federations, and done some searches, and I believe I have listed all of the major tournaments and a fair number of minor games.
If you have any knowledge of any new tournaments that are upcoming or of any that have been contested regularly, please let me know. The project would become overwhelming if I attempted to include all international tournaments that have ever been played, so I am limiting the list to any international tournament at which a national team played since 1990.* These include regional games, such as the Bolivarian Games listed below, and do not have to be a competition at which only baseball was played. (*The project has now been extended to all tournaments ever.)
I have listed qualifying tournaments separately unless the qualifying occurs during the main tournament as a round robin. I may have the same competition listed under two different names, so please correct me if that is the case.
I would also like to know what the names of the tournaments are in the languages of the teams that play them, especially for the Asian events. I know how to search for games in Spanish and, to a lesser extent, French and Portuguese.
Finally, if anyone is aware of a site that has box scores for any tournament, please let me know. No event is too small!
