Japan Sets Three World Baseball Classic Records

Japan re-wrote the record books in its 16-4 drubbing of the Netherlands. Two different team records were shattered, while another was tied. Atsunori Inaba also made an individual mark.

Records:
Most extra-base hits in a game, team: 10 (Old record: 9, accomplished three times, most recently by Venezuela against Italy in 2009).
Most total bases in a game, team: 38 (Old record: 34, Australia against Mexico in 2009).
Most home runs in a game, team: 6 (Tied record set by Cuba against South Africa in 2009).
Oldest player to homer in a game: Atsunori Inaba, 40 years, 219 days (unofficial, only by Extra Innings’ count)
